WHAT IS RESTYLANE?
Restylane is a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler meant to correct lines around the mouth and nose, such as nasolabial folds. The clear gel formula works by binding to water molecules to help create volume under the skin. This volume fills in unwanted lines and wrinkles for smoother skin. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring molecule within the skin, so results appear natural, with a youthful, hydrated, and luminous look. Restylane can also be used in the lips to add natural-looking plumpness in patients over the age of 21.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR RESTYLANE?
Most patients who are over 21 years of age and wish to reduce signs of aging or non-surgically augment areas such as the lips are good candidates for Restylane. The treatment adds natural-looking volume to the face, which can be lost over time as fat cells naturally shift lower in the face due to the aging process. In addition, the treatment can be beneficial for volume loss in the hands. Several types of Restylane are available with varying formulas suited to different treatment areas. Some of these include Restylane Silk, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Defyne, Restylane Refyne, and Restylane Kysse. Patients with certain medical conditions such as bleeding disorders or allergies may not be good candidates for Restylane. THE RESTYLANE TREATMENT
Before your Restylane treatment, our skincare experts will carefully examine your face to determine which areas should be treated. Then, the areas will be cleaned, and the Restylane will be injected using a small needle. While most patients do not find these injections painful, a topical anesthetic can be applied prior to treatment on request. Restylane includes lidocaine within its formula, so most patients find that topical anesthetic is not necessary, as numbing takes place quickly after injections are administered. Results are immediately visible after injections and will improve as swelling resolves. Restylane injections can be completed quickly, with most procedures taking as little as 15 minutes. Often, patients can receive their first injections immediately following their consultation with Dr. Sárraga.
RESTYLANE RECOVERY
There is no downtime associated with Restylane injections. Patients can immediately return to their normal routines after receiving the treatment. Following treatment, common side effects include bruising, redness, swelling, or itching at the injection site, though this should be temporary. Some patients also experience headaches after their Restylane injections, which should be mild and resolve quickly. After receiving your injections, you should avoid applying pressure to the area, strenuous activity such as exercise, drinking alcohol, or taking blood-thinning medications. These can increase the risk of bruising or bleeding.
Restylane results are immediate and can last up to six months. Over time, the body will naturally and safely break down the hyaluronic acid, making Restylane results temporary. As needed or desired, patients can receive routine maintenance injections to keep up their new look. If for whatever reason you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your Restylane injections, a solution can be injected to help the product dissolve faster. For Restylane patients who are looking for a longer-lasting or permanent result, Dr. Sárraga may recommend options such as fat grafting.
