WHAT IS BELOTERO?
Made up of hyaluronic acid gel, Belotero is a dermal filler created to smooth fine lines, deep wrinkles, nasolabial folds, and acne scars, or to volumize the lips. Belotero is specially formulated to create a smooth gel texture, providing a natural look and feel. Unlike neuromodulators like Botox, Belotero fills in areas of the skin while leaving skin flexible for comfortable movement.

BELOTERO CANDIDATES
Healthy individuals 21 years of age or older who wish to smooth lines and wrinkles are often good candidates. Be sure to tell Dr. Sarraga if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as it is not known how Belotero will work in these circumstances. Patients who take blood-thinning medications and supplements or who smoke may also be poor candidates for Belotero. A consultation is needed to decide if Belotero is a good match for you. During your consultation, Dr. Sárraga will evaluate your health history to ensure safety.
Several hyaluronic acid injectables are available, meaning that Belotero may or may not be your best option for achieving your cosmetic goals. Experts like Dr. Sárraga are best able to determine the best injectable for each patient based on subtle differences in formulas. During your consultation, Dr. Sárraga may suggest another product or utilizing a combination of injectables alongside Belotero to achieve your best possible results. A personalized treatment plan can be determined for you.
THE BELOTERO PROCEDURE
Belotero can typically be injected immediately following your consultation. Once the appropriate injection sites have been determined, the area will be cleansed to avoid any infections or other complications. As needed, topical numbing solutions may also be applied. This is not always necessary, as Belotero contains lidocaine for some numbing effects. With this preparation complete, the Belotero can then be injected using a fine needle. The injection process can be completed quickly, with appointments taking as little as 15 minutes. This makes injectable treatments perfect for on-the-go patients.
BELOTERO RESULTS
Belotero results are immediate after treatment and will last about six months. Longevity varies among patients based on multiple factors, and some will see Belotero results which last as long as 18 months. Some patients may find that in areas that experience a lot of movement due to talking, smiling, or chewing, the product may dissolve faster than in other areas. Over time, the product is naturally and safely broken down by the body, meaning results will gradually fade. You may choose to schedule maintenance injections to keep up your results. Dr. Sárraga can help you determine a suitable long-term treatment plan. If for whatever reason you are unsatisfied with your results, it is possible to inject a solution that causes the product to break down, effectively reversing results.
After treatment, some patients may experience mild itchiness, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. These side effects usually resolve within a week. There is little to no downtime associated with Belotero treatments, with most patients able to return to their daily activities right away. However, patients should avoid alcoholic beverages and extensive sun exposure for 24 hours after treatment. This is important to prevent unnecessary or excessive side effects including bruising, bleeding, or hyperpigmentation. It is not necessary to massage or apply pressure to the injection site, as this can cause unwanted migration, bruising, or other complications. Dr. Sárraga will give you specific instructions regarding aftercare.
