WHAT IS RADIESSE?
Radiesse is a dermal filler created to smooth moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles. This filler can also be used to restore volume loss in the back of the hands for younger-looking hands. Made up of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, Radiesse provides immediate volume under the skin, while continuing to work over time by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production. This makes Radiesse unique compared to other dermal fillers, which more commonly contain hyaluronic acid. Over time, the injectable gel is absorbed by the body, leaving behind your own natural collagen for natural-looking results. Radiesse is useful for signs of aging and volume loss in multiple areas of the face and body thanks to its ability to stimulate new collagen production.

RADIESSE CANDIDATES
Ideal candidates will have moderate to severe facial folds or wrinkles, or wish to correct volume loss in the back of the hands. Individuals should not receive Radiesse if they have a history of allergies, a bleeding disorder, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is important to discuss your medical history with Dr. Sarraga during your consultation to ensure a safe and effective treatment.
In addition to these health considerations, Radiesse may not be the best option for patients who are unsure or hesitant about long-term results. Since Radiesse results in natural collagen production, results last far beyond the product breaking down. This may mean that patients should try a product which does not last as long first before trying Radiesse. During your consultation appointment, Dr. Sárraga can help you weigh your options and develop a personalized treatment plan.
THE RADIESSE PROCEDURE
In many cases, Radiesse injections can be made immediately following your consultation. First, the area will be thoroughly cleansed to prevent infection or other complications. Next, injection sites will be precisely marked. As needed, a topical numbing agent can be applied to maintain comfort throughout the injections. Radiesse is available both with and without lidocaine in its formula, which can make topical numbing unnecessary. In any case, the needles used to inject Radiesse are very small, making the procedure well-tolerated by most patients. Once injections are complete, patients are free to immediately return to their normal routines. Often, Radiesse injections can be completed in as little as 15 minutes, making the treatment perfect for busy patients.
RADIESSE RESULTS
Following treatment, some patients may experience mild side effects, including bruising, redness, swelling, or itching at the injection site. These effects are temporary and should resolve within a few days. To prevent unnecessary side effects, including excessive bruising or bleeding, Dr. Sárraga may advise you to avoid exercising or completing other strenuous activities, applying pressure to the area, taking blood-thinning medication, or drinking alcohol.
Aside from some initial swelling, Radiesse results are immediately visible. However, results will shift somewhat as the natural collagen production takes place. This varies from patient to patient, especially when considering a patient’s age. Younger patients may notice final results within as little as three weeks, while others may not notice results until about six weeks. Dr. Sárraga can explain expectations during your consultation. Patients can enjoy results from Radiesse to last up to a year or more. Once results subside, maintenance injections can be scheduled to keep up the patient’s new, more youthful appearance.
