The new year is full of opportunities! It’s a chance for a fresh start, and a chance to start some self-care regimens that stick.
Hair wellness goes far beyond the shampoo and conditioner you use. The health of your hair depends on the health of the rest of your body. By following these tips, you can improve not just your hair’s appearance, but also your overall wellbeing.
1. Have a consistent sleep schedule
Sleep is the time that your brain uses to reset. Throughout the night, your body and brain get the rest that they need to recharge for the next day. That’s why you feel refreshed when you wake up after a long, deep sleep. It’s also why you feel tired if you don’t get enough sleep.
Sleep deprivation has negative effects on your body chemistry. It increases your cortisol levels, and the higher stress levels impact your hair growth.
The best thing you can do is sleep at the same time every day. You should also aim to get anywhere from seven to nine hours of rest. You’ll feel better, and your hair will thank you.
2. Move on a daily basis
It’s easy to let exercise fall by the wayside, especially if you’ve been working indoors for a while. But exercise is vital for the human body. It helps you sleep better, boosts your metabolism, and lowers your stress levels. All three of these factors influence hair growth. Exercise leads to better hair health, period!
You don’t have to start off with a super intense workout if it’s been a while since you exercised. Try looking up low-level fitness tutorials online. A walk around your neighborhood or a jog on a hiking trail can also do wonders.
If one exercise doesn’t work, don’t push it! Just keep trying things until you find whatever works best for you.
3. Take it easy on the hair product
Hair styling takes time and effort. It also requires a range of products and tools to get to look the way you want it to. Many people have cabinets filled with sprays, gels, dry shampoos, and other products. But too much product use can cause problems.
The excess product can build up on your hair, making your shampoo and conditioner less effective. It can also clog pores on your face and scalp. Depending on the products used, you might have increased exposure to potentially harmful chemicals.
If you absolutely cannot give up your styling routine, look at the products you’re using. Do they have sulfates or parabens? These components can be harmful to both your hair and your health. It’s best to switch to something that doesn’t have harsh ingredients.
4. Meditate for fifteen minutes a day
Fifteen minutes of daily meditation can go a long way. We live busy lives. It’s important to carve out a space where you can stop worrying and just get in touch with your body.
Meditation activates your parasympathetic nervous system and decreases your cortisol levels, which has noticeable effects on hair growth.
5. Talk to a professional
Consulting with someone who is familiar with hair growth methods can be very beneficial. They can help determine what your specific hair growth needs may be and work with you to find the best treatment and remedies.
